Michael French McDonnell

Michael French McDonnell, age 65, of La Grange. Loving father of Michael, Timothy (Darcy), Luke (Corinne), and Sophia whom he shared with Margaret. Grandfather of Mercedes “Sadie Rose.” Cherished brother of the late Mercedes (John) Hacholski, Joseph (Catherine) McDonnell, Bridget (Bill) Mushrush, Erin (Gerry) Leahy, Jeanelle (Neil) Noonan, Kathleen (Bill) Lynch, Honor (Tom) Lorenzini, and Shevawn (Patrick) Feeney. Devoted son of the late L. Gregory and the late Mercedes McDonnell. Fond uncle of many.

Michael grew up in La Grange and attended Fenwick High School. He then went on to Western Michigan University and also attended Benedictine University.

A member of IBEW Local 134, he spent his career as an electrician and project estimator for 36 years.

Michael spent the last decade of his life residing in Wisconsin, where he enjoyed hiking in the Kettle Moraine Forest as well as kayaking along the region’s many rivers and lakes. Known to take annual road trips to Florida, Colorado, and everywhere else the open road took him, he enjoyed spontaneity. He became a grandfather this past May and welcomed two daughters-in-law in the past few years. Michael loved his growing family and will be remembered and sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are greatly appreciated.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 26th at St. Francis Xavier Church, La Grange. Interment will take place privately. Funeral information: 708-352-6500

  1. You’ll be missed Uncle Mike! Great family times as kids and boating in Wisconsin! One random day at McDonalds drive thru I was told the guy in front of me paid for me. It was Uncle Mike!
