Dorothy M. Zumer

Dorothy M. Zumer, age 77.  Loving daughter of Andrew and Mary (Rupar) Zumer; dear sister of the late Theresa Zumer, the late Andrew (Sally) Zumer, the late Loretta (late David) Beinhoff, and Jo Anne (Robert) McAuley; cherished aunt of thirteen nieces and nephews; great-aunt and great-great-aunt of dozens more; and beloved lifelong friend of Margaret Kowalski and Cheryl Brueckmann. Dorothy earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of St. Francis and her master’s degree from DePaul University. She worked for over forty years in various office roles at businesses throughout the Chicago area. A devoted Catholic, she was active in church activities, sang in the choir, and supported religious causes. Dorothy was an adventurous traveler, having toured at least nine European countries as well as Russia. Crafty and talented, Dorothy created holiday-themed ceramic art. Gregarious and generous, she and her sister, Theresa, ensured that the extended families gathered to reconnect, share a meal, and enjoy many giggles as she conducted her annual gift giveaways. Despite challenges, Dorothy was deeply loyal. She cared for Theresa and their parents for many years. We will miss Dorothy’s energy, kindness, and laughter but are comforted to know that she is at peace. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Monday July 31st at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301 75th St., Downers Grove, proceeding to St. Mary of Gostyn Church for Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m.  Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, Masses and memorial donations to Catholic Charities of Chicago are appreciated.
