Karin J. Bull

(2/11/24) Karin Bull lived a wonderful, purposeful life. She walked her own path, guided by her strong moral and intellectual compass, eyes focused on the horizon for examples of kindness and positive social change, grateful for her “good fortune,” and committed to contributing to a more just and humane world. Her “itchy feet” joyfully took her to many destinations in the U.S. and far beyond. Among her other passions: reading well-written books, knitting, registering voters (particularly teens), feminism, and progressive politics.  Karin taught English for many years at Lyons Township High School (IL), relishing in great, challenging books (for example, introducing Toni Morrison’s newly-published Beloved to the curriculum) and holding supportively high expectations for all her students. Among the causes to which she dedicated her time: Pillars Community Health, League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area, La Grange Park Public Library, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, and – relatedly – clinic patient escorting. Beloved wife of Jim Bull (deceased), dear parent and grandparent, and loved one of many others, Karin gifted people with celebration of their joys, a listening ear, great questions, intellect, and a sly sense of humor. A memorial service will be held 3/16/24 at 1 pm at Plymouth Place (315 N. La Grange Road, La Grange Park, IL). Contributions in Karin’s memory may be made to: Planned Parenthood or Pillars Community Health. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home in Countryside.
