Halina Ragus

Halina Ragus (nee Walinska), of Chicago, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023 surrounded by loving family members. Beloved wife of Casimer of 69 years. Loving mother of George (Lori) and Elizabeth (William) Buhrmaster. Cherished grandmother of Christine (Ryan) Reniff, Carolyn (Scott) Gessner, Daniel Ragus, Michelle (fiancé Peter Mataragas) Buhrmaster, and Julia Ragus. Great-grandmother of Maya and Henry. Fond aunt and friend to many.

Halina, born in Warsaw, Poland, immigrated with her family to Chicago following WWII. Her husband and family were the cornerstone of her life. But what she loved most were her and grand and great-grandchildren. She had a high bar for polite and responsible behavior but with some wiggle room for the grandkids. Her love for them was unconditional.

Others loved hearing her stories, funny songs, and jokes. Halina loved entertaining, a good laugh, romantic songs, films, and news reports dominated her viewing.

She prayed for good will, peace, and harmony.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John of the Cross Church, Hinsdale Humane Society, or St. Ladislaus Parish are greatly appreciated.

Visitation 10am until time of Funeral Mass, 11am on Monday, August 7th at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Rd., Western Springs. All guests are invited to join the family for a 1pm burial at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.  Please meet at the cemetery office. Funeral information: 708-352-6500
