Jacquelin L. “Jackie” Dodson

Dodson, Jacquelin (Jackie) L. Age 93; passed away on Monday, October 10th, 2022. Jackie was born on November 17th, 1928 in Racine, WI to Stephen and Kathryn “Kap” Hanson. She was the oldest to two brothers Edward (Bucky) and William (Bill) Hanson. She was a longtime resident of LaGrange Park, IL and Barnes, WI. Jackie was united in marriage to Charles A. Dodson (Chuck) in 1952, at Holy Communion Lutheran Church Racine, WI.

Jackie was a proud graduate of Carthage College where she majored in English. She would become a school teacher and was the Homecoming Queen in 1951. Jackie and Chuck raised three amazing children, Cathy, Chip, and Steve. The wonderful life they built together afforded them the opportunity to live around the country in places like Spokane, WA, Fond du Lac, WI, Van Nuys, CA and eventually settling in La Grange Park, IL.

Some of Jackie’s greatest joys were her hobbies. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, machine embroidery and had a second career as an author of more than 25 books on sewing, jewelry and rug making. A longtime member of the Hinsdale Embroiders guild she served as President for 2 years. She was an avid member of the Writers Group in Solon Springs, WI. What never changed for her was an undying love for her lake home on Middle Eau Claire Lake in Barnes, WI.

She survived by her daughter Catherine (Thomas) Molenda, Charles A. Dodson Jr., and Stephen (Rebecca) Dodson; dear grandmother of Jennifer Shaughnessy (Danny)(nee Molenda) Julie McLean (nee Molenda), and Aaron and Evan Dodson; fond great-grandmother of Stewart, Abigail, and Charlie McLean; relative and friend of many. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles A. Dodson. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation from, Saturday, Nov 5th from 10:30 a.m. until time of Service, 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 200 N. Catherine Ave., LaGrange. Interment private. Funeral info: 708-352-6500

  1. Cathy, so sorry to hear about your Mom, she was a sweet lady. You’re very lucky to have had her for 93 years- our condolences to all of you 😢🙏🙏
