George Sylvester Sharko

George Sylvester Sharko, born August 30, 1926, died September 12, 2022.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia (Szpajer), parents George and Alice (Wolk) Sharko, his sister, Sr M Maurita Sharko and brother Gerald; his brothers Greg and Don and sister, Eleria St. Aubin.

Loving father of Debbie (Tom) Corcoran, Sue (Tom) Gorski, George (Jami), Jeff (Michelle), and Jason (Jennifer).  Grandfather of Dan (Liz) Corcoran, Kristy (Matt) Wagner, Kyle (Molly) Corcoran, Zach (Bridget) Gorski, Annie (Chris) Sikora, Tim (Angel) Gorski, Josh (Danielle), Ben (Anita), Cody (Emma), Matt, Brittney, Nathan, Jake, Michael, Ryan, Madison, & Jack Sharko.

Great Grandfather of Luke and Colin Wagner, Parker Corcoran, Wyatt and Virginia Gorski, Henry and Adeline Sikora, Theo, Owen, Will and Everly Sharko.

George enlisted in the navy at the age of 17.  He graduated high school on D-Day, went to Loyola University, met the love of his life at a St. Patrick’s Day dance and married Virginia in 1950.  He said his early years as a door-to-door salesman were humbling but eventually led to the opening of Sharko’s Restaurants with his brothers in 1956.  They were privileged to host numerous memorable life events for countless happy customers in the Chicagoland area for many years.

Visitation at St. John of the Cross Church (5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, IL 60558) on Friday, September 16 10:00am – 11:00am. Mass to follow immediately at 11:00am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hines VA Hospital Hospice Fund, 5000 S Fifth Ave., Voluntary Service Bldg #9, Hines, IL 60141.   2. My mother, Mae Braje, was a waitress for many, many years at Sharkos and loved working there. She was a hard working and faithful employee. They recognized that. The brothers loved her, and she loved them as well.

    Mr. Sharko was such a wonderful person and will be missed. He was always so kind to me when I saw him.
