Lilyan K. Barry

Lilyan (nee Ketchum) Barry, longtime resident of Northbrook, IL, was born on September 10, 1945, and passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021. She is survived by her four loving children, Trisha, Jennifer (Ricky), Lizzy (Michael), and Stephen (Michelle), 10 beautiful grandchildren, Christopher (Mandy), Autumn, Austin, Hannah, Dylan, Olivia, Leah, Kam, Harper, and Jackson, and two precious great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Sage.

She lived a full life, doting on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she never tired of talking to and about and who delighted her without limit. She had a mischievous sense of humor, loved museums, biographies, and mysteries, and happily engaged with any willing person in lively exchanges on current events of the day. She took great pleasure in playing cards and board games, watching old tv shows, going to the movies, and chatting up strangers. An artist at heart, she was a talented sewer, knitter, painter, and decorator and always had some creative project in the works, even after a debilitating stroke severely limited her mobility and dexterity.

Lilyan was one of nine children born in Johnson City, TN, to the late Margaret Lily Belle (nee Watson) Meeks and was a dear sister to Susan (the late Jack), Diane (the late Raymond), Margaret, Ralph (Mary), and Billy David (Anna) and a cherished cousin and dedicated aunt to many. She is preceded in death by her sweet grandchildren Leyla and Elliott and devoted siblings Taylor (Carolyn), Coy (Helene), and Jim (Connie).

Family and friends will be received at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside, IL, on Monday, December 13 at 9:30 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. at Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL. Further information is available at (708) 352-6500.

The family expresses their gratitude to the kind caregivers and staff at Greenview Place, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (http://www.heart.org) for the prevention of strokes.
