William C. Gerberich

William C. Gerberich, 84, long-time resident of Western Springs, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021. Bill was born in Chicago, IL on August 22, 1937 to Kenneth and Virginia Gerberich. Bill was a cherished husband for 57 years to Sandra Gerberich (nee Otto), devoted father of Debbie (Sandy) Gerberich, Julie (Kevin) Beitz, and Vicki Gerberich; proud grandpa of Jessica, Robert, Lindsey, and Adam. Bill was the dear brother of James and John Gerberich. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

After proudly serving in the Army National Guard, Bill worked in the banking industry as Senior Vice President at Hinsdale Federal Savings and Loan and then Liberty Bank. Upon his first retirement, he started a new career as a realtor. Lastly, he served on the Board of Directors of Central Federal Savings and Loan. He finally retired for good in December, 2019.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed gardening, travel, and checking out car lots on Sunday, searching for the ever elusive perfect Mustang. Like a gardener who tends to the soil to ensure a strong foundation, Bill tended to his family, deepening and strengthening the family roots through love, patience, and care. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation 3 to 7pm on Friday, December 10 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th Street, Countryside. Celebration of Life at 1:30pm, Saturday, December 11 at 1st Congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut Street. 1. So sorry for the passing of Bill. The comment, “finally retired for good ” made me laugh. He sounded to be a very active and kind loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather. Prayers and Peace to the entire family.

  2. Bill was a humble giant who not only taught me everything I know about mortgages but also a lot about being a good husband and father. I will miss his easy-going nature, his quick smile and his gentle laugh. He was a good friend and mentor. Bruce Torgler
