Epifania ‘Fana’ Suriano

Epifania ‘Fana’ Suriano went home to the Lord on May 4, 2020 at the age of 80.  She was born on January 16, 1940 to the late Sigismonda and Salvatore Virzi in Nissoria, Sicily. Beloved wife of 61 years to Angelo. Fana was the loving mother of Orazio (Elia) Suriano, Carmela (Joseph) Zinnecker, Francesca (Charley) Williams, and Ramona (Tony) Skvarenina. She was a loving sister to the late Angelo (the late Carmela) Virzi, Cecilia (Luigi) Aquino, and Nunzio (Anna) Virzi. She was a doting Nonna to Venestina, Angela (David), Andrew (Anna Brit), Melissa (Dan), Michael (Samantha), Matthew, Nadine, Nicole, and Alexander. Great Nonna to Emmett Zinnecker. She was a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews. Fana was an energetic and wonderful wife and mother, who made many countless sacrifices for her family. Along with her husband Angelo and young children, she made the long journey from Italy to Chicago, arriving on June 6, 1966. Like countless other immigrants, not knowing English or many people in her new homeland, she nonetheless forged ahead in selflessly providing a loving home for her husband and children. She simply wanted the best life possible for her kids, and was relentless in doing so. “Famiglia” was her top priority, as was her devotion to the Lord. She was an amazing cook and baker. Her biscotti was second to none! Her love of cooking was her way of showing her love and passion for her family and anyone who was fortunate enough to be a guest in her home. She is and will continue to be sorely missed by all who knew her. Services private. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations, in her memory, to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at https://alzfdn.org.

Arrangements are entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Countryside at 708-352-6500.
