Rosemary Balazs

Rosemary Balazs, 92, born in Chicago and a long-time resident of Hinsdale since 1970, passed away on September 12, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Nagy) Balazs, the dear sister of the late Elizabeth (late Charles) Raz of Palos Heights, Joseph K. (Marie) Balaz of Lincolnshire, and the late Julie and John J. She was the dear aunt of Chuck (Rosemary) Raz, Beth Raz, Sue (Dr. Michael) O’Connor, Joe (Dana) Balaz, Andrea (David) Fossier and Ron Balazs. She also leaves behind many grand and great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
Rosemary graduated from Fenger High School in 1950 and was the editor of the yearbook which took a national first prize. She held a B.S. from Elmhurst College and MBA from Rosary College (now Dominican University).
Rosemary retired from Inland Steel in 1992 where she had worked for over 30 years. She was President and member of the Board for three years of the Women’s Credit Association of Chicago. She loved learning and felt it was the fountain of youth. She was back in school a week after retirement and took numerous courses at the College of DuPage in the arts and music.
Rosemary was an active member of the Chicagoland Daylily Society and served on the Board as Recording Secretary and Treasurer for ten years. She was a member of various church choirs over the years and was a student of the piano. A gardener, since the age of five, her National Display Garden on Oak Street in Hinsdale was visited by many gardeners and photographers. She was a member of numerous other garden clubs, but her main interest was daylilies, the arts, especially sculpting and Hungarian folk music.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John of the Cross, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, IL 60558 on Saturday, September 27 at 11am. Her final interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th Street, Alsip, IL 60803, Section 49, Block 9, Lot 59, Grave 8.
