Gloria Jean O’Marrah

On July 30th, 2025, Gloria Jean O’Marrah left us for a better place at 1:05 p.m. 78 years was too short for her to bless this world. She was a devoted partner in life to Michael O’Marrah for 61 spectacular years. She was a compassionate mother who had tremendous love for her children Cathy, Michael, Christine, and Rebecca. Her strength and tenacity were also passed on to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She created a family rooted in love and empowered those around her to stand strong and follow in her belief that you can be anything you want to be. She was always moving forward by learning new things and becoming more. She was a wife, a mother, a gramma, a therapist, an animal trainer, a broker, a bodybuilder, a masseuse…. In the end she became whatever it is that she wanted to become, whatever that was needed of her. Her passion for her four-legged babies could be seen in the absolute adoration of their eyes. She could tame the wildest horses with her patience and calming presence. She could create beautiful gardens, memorable family holidays, and the most wonderful contagious laughter. Gloria Jean O’Marrah you are amazing, just the way you are. ❤️

A visitation will be held from 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, August 3rd at Hallowell & James, 301 75th Street, Downers Grove. Interment will take place privately. Please call 630-964-6500 for further information.

  1. Dearest Mom,

    You taught me about love…. Strength…. Compassion…. Humor….. Faith….
You always asked me when I called – How is my beautiful daughter? I am broken without your voice here. I take a deep breath and fight back the tears, because I know that Jesus has room that he has created just for you. Before I know it, I will be back with you in your new home.

In that glorious room, we will sing the last song you shared with me –
    When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
    ‘Cause you’re amazing
    Just the way you are
    And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
    ‘Cause girl, you’re amazing
    Just the way you are.

Mom you were amazing and I was blessed to have you while I did.

  2. Thinking of you with love, O’Marrah family! May the depth of Auntie Gloria’s love and devotion hold you together in strength 🤍

  3. Sending deepest sympathies from Arlington, VA.
Gloria was one of the most creative people I knew. She always had a new hobby or interest to delve into with vigor. She enjoyed new challenges & ideas.
The O’Marrah family’s love and solidarity is a testament to her life well lived.

Grief is love with no place to go.

  4. Our deepest condolences for the loss of Gloria, a stong, genuine and funny person, with a sharp and keen sense of humor.
Over the years she lived an active and fullfilled life with her beloved husband, Mike. We will remember Gloria as a sraight shooter who was fun to be with and whose presence was endearing to those around her. She will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace, Gloria.

  5. On 7/30/2025, I lost my color yellow. To my infinite love. You took your last breath. I haven’t had the time to process until now. And I’m truly sorry that I didn’t get to spend the time I wanted. I wont get to hear “there’s my baby girl” or ” there’s my favorite granddaughter “. No more crazy inappropriate jokes. No more random texts or Christmas gifts.
I never thought it would be this hard. Letting you go. But now I remember that since you are gone, your door is no longer open. There won’t be another opportunity for me to see or call you. Next time is now the last time. You are no longer present, but a sweet and, right now, bitter memory.
But here is to you Grandma. To the woman who never let anything stand in her way. To you who shaped me into who I am. I can only look up with the sky and hope you are proud of me. That is because of you, I want to help people. Be for them as I wasn’t able to be there for you.
You always thank me for being your life. But truly, I don’t think you understand how much you made up mine. So here is to my color yellow. I look for you in every flower. And every sunrise and sunset. In every street lamp. And in every smile I try to bring to this Earth.

Here is to you, my forever, infinitely yellow.
    Love Liz

    Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
    And everything you do
    Yeah, they were all yellow
    I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
    And it was called “Yellow”
So then I took my turn
Oh, what a thing to have done
    And it was all yellow
Your skin, oh yeah, your skin and bones
    Turn into something beautiful
And you know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
    I swam across
    I jumped across for you
Oh, what a thing to do
    ‘Cause you were all yellow
    I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh, what a thing to do
    And it was all yellow
And your skin, oh yeah, your skin and bones
