George James Cech

George James Cech, age 82, passed peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

George, the son of Anton Cech and Helen Macha, was the devoted and loving husband to his wife Dolores (married for over 53 years) and together they raised three children – James ‘Jim’ Cech, Anthony ‘Tony’ Cech, and David Cech.  He was the loving grandfather to Joshua, Timothy, Nathan, Jacob, and Silas as well as Julissa and Jamison.

George will always be remembered as compassionate, kind, and caring.  He was a man who went out of his way to help others and prided himself on being able to fix just about anything mechanical.  Although an electrician by profession, George was well versed in all areas of home repairs and improvements.  He spent warm weather months fishing and in his garden alongside his wife Dolores.  George was born on Chicago’s southside, later moving to Lyons and then Countryside (where he spent the last 46 years).  George served in the US Army as a Helicopter Mechanic during the Vietnam War.

He will most be remembered for his sense of humor, love for his family and friends, but also his insatiable appetite for sweets (cookies, pies and cakes!).

The family appreciates your support and asks that, in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association:   https://www.alz.org/illinois.

Family and friends are invited to meet on Friday, March 1st for a 10am Memorial Mass at St. Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., LaGrange.

At a later date the family will transport George’s ashes to his final resting place via a military service burial at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
