Peter “Pete” Thomas Frigo

Peter “Pete” Thomas Frigo, 84, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024. He was born March 26, 1939 in the Chicago neighborhood of Pullman. Pete grew up working in his father’s paint store until he went off to college at Northern Illinois University. After graduating, Pete met Sylvia, the love of his life. They were married on April 22, 1967. The two started their family in Beverly and moved to Western Springs in 1974 where they settled down and made many long lasting friendships.

 Pete spent most of his career in education, both as a chemistry teacher and a school administrator at Moraine Valley Community College, before retiring in 1999. His retirement years were spent giving back to the community by volunteering for The Saturday Meals Program Ministry, St. John of The Cross, and the Western Springs Village Club Men’s Golf League. In addition, Pete loved traveling, golf, bocce ball, cooking, Italian music, hosting friends in “Da Den”, and cheering on the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Fighting Illini.  

 Pete loved his family above all else and is survived by his children, Laura (Jim) Kearney of Western Springs; Michelle (Russ) Yoshinaka of Lafayette, CA; Amy Frigo of La Grange; proud grandfather of Morgan, Aidan, and Will Kearney; Kea and Jake Yoshinaka; Luke and Lilah Frigo-Lehmkuhl; and his brothers Dominick (Jo Anne) and Elwood (Angie) Frigo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, and his parents, Peter and Pauline. He was a loving friend and family member of many.

 Visitation for Pete will be held at St. John of the Cross, 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs, IL on Saturday, January 27 from 10-11am. A Mass will follow from 11-12pm. Burial will be private. Those unable to attend Mass, may view the livestream at https://www.facebook.com/sjcwesternsprings.

  1. Pete was a wonderful friend and neighbor. His generous spirit was easily seen in the many ways he gave to others.

  2. Peter was a wonderful part of the family, I remember him always being upbeat, funny and a dedicated family man.
