Lois Ruth Vrdsky

Lois Ruth Vrdsky, nee Hammer, age 96, passed away October 24, 2023 at Sunrise of Fountain Square in Lombard, IL. Lois was born in Chicago, IL to Beulah, nee Robinson and Carl Hammer on February 10, 1927. Our mom leaves this world to join our father, Bob in heaven. She was a devoted wife to Bob for almost 75 years. She was the proud mother of Janet DeFilippis (the late Sam), Joyce (Frank) Rizzo and Stephan (Sandie) Vrdsky. Devoted sister of the late Alvin (late Dorothy) Hammer. Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Ryan, Jonathan, Samantha, Craig, Beth, Lauren and step-granddaughter Brittanie. Adoring great-grandmother of Ashley, Kendall, Grace, Lauren, Elsa, Ally, Jimmy, Jack, Tessa, Corbin, Tucker, Melody and step-great-grandchildren Hayden, Melody and Oliver. Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.

After graduating Carl Schultz High School, Lois started her career at the Chicago Title & Trust where she met her husband Bob whom she married on Valentine’s Day 1948. When Bob and Lois’s children were attending Jefferson Elementary School in Berwyn, she became active in the PTA where she served for many years. Most of the women she met there stayed friends long after the children grew to adults and remain friends to this day. It was her and Bob’s love for travel that is what kept them active throughout their Golden years. They visited all 50 states mostly traveling by car. Above all, Lois and Bob will be remembered for the deep love of their family. They adored their grandchildren, rarely missing a sporting event or activity. It has been hard to say one name without the other this past year. She will forever be missed. We love you dearly, mom. The family would like to thank Sunrise of Fountain Square in Lombard and Suncrest Hospice for all the love and care they showed to Lois in her later years.

Services and interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home 630-964-6500

  2. Joyce,
I am very sorry for your mom’s passing. ❤️ She was such a wonderful, kind, thoughtful person – just like you. I will always remember how loving and kind both of your parents were to me. Especially the cards your mom would send Gracie for every single holiday. 🥰
May you find peace reflecting on all of the wonderful memories of her. And, peace knowing she is reunited with your dad in heaven.
    We love you!

  3. Our deepest sympathies on your Mom’s passing. I remember the good old days when all of our parents were active in school events, and hung out and partied. So sorry for your loss.
    Sincerely
