Wanda Kiefer

Wanda (Turowski) Kiefer, 97, of Downers Grove, was called home by our Lord on Sunday, October 22, 2023.  Beloved wife of the late Henry Kiefer.  Loving daughter of the late Emma & Adolf Turowski.

Wanda was a loving and generous sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She would sew, knit, cook, bake, babysit, and help with whatever was needed.

Growing up in Germany, Wanda apprenticed under Aunt Helena to become a seamstress. This knowledge and talent benefited all, especially the nieces, who were always in the prettiest dresses for each holiday and special occasion, a reflection of her love. When Wanda came to Chicago, she worked at Fasano Pies. Upon her retirement she became a Shaklee distributor with her husband, Henry.

Wanda loved gardening, her flowers, and plants. She enjoyed her time in South Haven, Michigan, walking on the beach and catching up with friends. She loved to be surrounded by family and to cook for them. Her smile and laughter at the gatherings are treasured. She made everyone’s birthday and celebration cakes, year after year. All decorated with her special touch. Wanda’s yearly birthday comment “that’s what I always wanted” became a family motto. She welcomed, loved and was generous to all who came into her life.

There will be a Visitation for Wanda from 9am until her Funeral Service at 12 Noon on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 11500 German Church Road, Burr Ridge, Illinois 60527.  Interment at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, Illinois will immediately follow the Funeral Service.

Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Downers Grove at 630/964-6500
