Georgian Rekash

Georgian Rekash; loving mother of the late Joseph Rekash; dear sister of the late Virginia (the late Robert) Maeder; daughter of the late George & the late Constance Rekash; dear sister of Richard (Corinne) Rekash; aunt & great-aunt of many.

Earning a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting from DePaul University, Georgian fulfilled a call to public service. Professionally, she began her career as an IRS Revenue Agent with several decades of tax experience. Upon her retirement, she continued to find opportunities to serve in the local community including becoming a dedicated Religious Education Instructor for Second Grade and Sunday School, a Eucharistic Minister to Briar Place Nursing Home, and 4th Grade Lunch Room Supervisor Monitor for many years, as well as a dependable volunteer for a host of St. Cletus functions.

She was an advocate and voice for the aging population and became involved with several organizations including: a member of Aging Well Community Organization, Co-Leader of Countryside’s Community Action Team, Senior Ambassador for Countryside Promoting Community Outreach, Member of Countryside Senior Club, Act II Club Member and Treasurer for several years. She was a cherished volunteer at LaGrange Hospital, assisting and comforting those in their time of need.

Visitation 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.  Procession to St. Cletus Church will follow for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment St. Casimir Cemetery, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Georgian’s name to Aging Care Connections (https://www.agingcareconnections.org/) are greatly appreciated.   1. Georgian was a dear friend and co-volunteer for the Act II Seniors Club at La Grange Hospital. She also volunteered in the Surgical Section and was ready and willing whenever and wherever help was needed. We will miss her friendship. My condolences to all of her family and friends.   2. To Laura Rekash, Georgian’s loving daughter-in-law, and Juliet, loving granddaughter, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know how much Georgian loved you both. I hope in time, you can think of her with joy instead of sorrow.

  3. Georgian was the best friend anyone could have. We worked together many years ago and remained friends over the years. She had so much love for family, friends, her pets and the community. I will miss her, glad I knew her.
