Sally W. Burson

Sally “Salty” W. Burson, age 90, of LaGrange Park. Beloved wife of the late Robert C. Burson. Loving mother of Scott (Jill) Burson, Curt (Candice) Burson, Cheryl (Michael) Lehmann, and the late Dennett Burson. Devoted grandmother of Kyle (Alina) Burson and Brittany Burson; Christopher (Logan) Lehmann, Courtney (Zach) Louret, Blake Lehmann and Clayton Lehmann; Dear great-grandmother of William and Amelia Burson & Brecke and Kade Louret. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, William Andrew and Elsa Leopold Watters, and sister, Nancy Watters Russell.

Sally was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio.  She attended Lakewood High School, where she met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Burson.  She continued her education at Northwestern University, where she was a cheerleader, member of the Delta Gamma sorority, and participated in the Northwestern WaMu musicals.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, she taught Kindergarten in Evanston, Illinois.

Sally married Bob Burson in 1954, and the couple moved to LaGrange, Illinois, in 1956.  They raised four children and supported them in their many activities and athletic endeavors.

Sally and her family moved to Western Springs in 1971 where they continued to be heavily involved within the community.  Sally returned to teaching at Seventh Avenue School in LaGrange, District 105.  She retired after 25 years of teaching third grade.  Upon retirement, she and Bob split time between Western Springs, Illinois, and Naples, Florida.  She was an active member of P.E.O., Chapter DF/LP. She attended the First Congregational Church of Western Springs, where she lovingly served on the Memorial Garden Committee.

Sally’s favorite activities were bowling, playing golf and tennis, and snow skiing.  Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest treasures.

Sally and her family are grateful for the care that she received over the past few years.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2 at First Congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut St., Western Springs, IL 60558. Interment private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sally’s name to the First Congregational Church of Western Springs are appreciated.

  2. My sincerest condolences to the Burson family! I have such fond memories of Sally. She was very encouraging to me early in my teaching career. A very special lady!
