Rosemarie Johnson

Rosemarie “Rose” Johnson, 88, died peacefully at her home in Woodridge, Illinois, on July 8, 2023 . She was born in Schweinfurt, Germany, on November 6, 1934 to Johann and Babette Bauer. She met the love of her life, Jack Johnson, during World War II while he was serving in the American military and stationed in Germany. They married and Rose came to the U.S.A. to join Jack. She later became a naturalized citizen in a ceremony in Chicago. Jack served three tours in Korea and Vietnam, and they eventually settled in Woodridge in 1967.

Rose worked as an accounting clerk for Atlantic Richfield in Chicago for many years; later in life she worked in retail sales at L. Brandy in  Naperville and Oakbrook, and also at Elite Repeat in Westmont. She loved working with her customers, many of whom became friends. Rose lived independently in her home, in which she took great pride. She loved her dogs Puddin’ and Goldie, and especially Coco, who she rescued from a puppy mill.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 1984. She is survived by her sister, Elly Arnheiter, nephews Tom (Jody) and Jack (Kathy), nieces Rose and Kristen as well as others in Germany, and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Rose will be laid to rest next to Jack in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois.
