Lucy Jane Carillot

Lucy Jane Carillot (nee Griffin) formerly of Savannah, GA, passed away on March 5, 2023 at the age of 90. She most recently lived in LaGrange Park, IL, to be close to her daughters after her husband (Vince) died.

Lucy Jane Griffin was born on November 26, 1932 in Abbeville, Louisiana to Pauline and George Griffin.

After her father passed away, when she was a toddler, her mother married Henry Hebert who raised Lucy as his daughter. Lucy is preceded in death by her parents; George Griffin, Pauline and Henry Hebert, and her beloved husband, Vince Carillot. She is survived by her four daughters; Nancy (Roger) Meloche, Lauren Payne (Ray Pokorny), Carol (Mark) Wagner and Janet (Ken) Hooten, also her four daughters (via blended family); Della (Tom) Sullivan, Kim Kaucher, Chris Vanbourgondien (Tom), and Anita Carillot, two brothers; Ted and Terry Hebert and her dear grandchildren; Alex and Erica Pappas, Madeline, Grant and Scott Wagner, and Graham, Libby, Mara and Jill Hooten.

Lucy graduated from Wyandotte High School in Wyandotte, Michigan and Ohio Wesleyan University. She began her professional career as a Kindergarten teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio, then moved to Michigan where she raised her four daughters. In Michigan she also launched a successful career in real estate sales and management.

Lucy wed Vince Carillot on October 20, 1974 – a second marriage for both – and they enjoyed 46 wonderful married years together. They adored and supported each another as they pursued higher education, changing careers and multiple moves.

Lucy was jokingly given the nickname “Perfection” by friends and family as she was extremely strong-willed (among other things). She never took no for an answer, was the ultimate problem solver, and always in need of a project (a particular passion was building and decorating, then moving, her home). Lucy also firmly believed that most rules applied to others, but rarely her! Her self-confidence and drive led her to successful careers in real estate sales and management, at Charles Reinhart Real Estate in Ann Arbor, MI and The Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah, GA.

Lucy and Vince moved to Savannah, GA (from Ann Arbor, MI) in 1988 to begin new careers and enjoy warmer weather. They loved living on Skidaway Island and made it their home for thirty-plus years. Once retired, they also thoroughly enjoyed spending their summers at their home in Bay View, MI. This gave them what they considered “the best of both worlds”, and fun places for their family to visit. Lucy enjoyed singing in the choir at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, and she and Vince both loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and traveling the world together. They created a very happy and fulfilling life together in Ann Arbor, Bay View, and Savannah.

Lucy will be missed dearly, yet remembered lovingly by her family and friends for not only her tenacity, but also for her fierce dedication and love for Vince and their daughters.

No public memorial service will be held, but Lucy will join Vince in the Memorial Garden at the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Bay View Association: https://www.bayviewassociation.org/give-a-gift/, or the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411
