Mary Lou McEachran

Mary Lou McEachran was born on September 4, 1932 in Akron, Ohio to Chris and Margaret Peterson, now deceased. She died on March 1, 2023 in LaGrange Park, Illinois at the age of 90. Mary Lou and her two brothers, John and Charles, both now deceased, lived their early years in Boone, Iowa where she graduated from Boone High School in 1950. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1954 with a BS in Science. Following graduation, she married Richard Robbins and spent the next twenty years supporting her husband in his career as an Officer in the US Army. He died unexpectedly in 1974 with the rank of Colonel. They had three children; Rebecca Tilden (Jim), Sarah Busch (John), and Dan Robbins (June). As an Army Wife and for  many years after, Mary Lou taught elementary school in many locations, receiving numerous recognitions and accolades.

While at Iowa State University, Mary Lou and Richard developed life-long friendships that remained of great importance to Mary Lou throughout her adult years. Mary Lou was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni organizations. She was on the Board of Directors at Greenhill Senior Living Facility in Ames, Iowa. Both Mary Lou and her mother, Margaret, were lifetime members of P.E.O.

In 2001, Mary Lou married Daniel McEachran, a close friend from her Iowa State years, and together they began a 21-year odyssey of life’s golden years. Their travels spanned across all of the continents of the world.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children, her husband Daniel, four grandchildren; Dan Tilden (Holly), Mackenzie Patel (Pratik), Emma El-Shami (Amin), and Anna Busch, three great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.

A memorial service of Mary Lou’s life will be held on March 19, 2023 at 2:00pm at Plymouth Place in LaGrange Park, Illinois. Funeral information: 708-352-6500
