Joan M. Lange

Joan M. Lange

Joan Marie was born in Chicago on October 28, 1932, to Frank and Estelle Voyda.  She grew up in idyllic Riverside with her beloved younger brother Jack and many girlfriends, known as the “Jolly Girls”.  Joan enjoyed riding bikes along the river, skating at the “swan pond” and playing tennis.  Weekends and summer vacations were often spent with family friends in Union Pier, MI.  Sunday was always “family day” shared with extended family and friends at the beaches along Lake Michigan or other small lakes nearby.

She attended grammar school in Riverside and graduated from Riverside Brookfield High School before heading to the University of Illinois where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.  After college, she married her Riverside sweetheart Don Lange, who had just returned from serving in Korea in 1953.

Joan and Don moved to LaGrange Park in 1957 and became the proud parents to daughters Lisa Ann and Mary Susan.  Joan loved being a full-time mom and was active in school and community activities.  Her family was the most important and enjoyable part of her life, and they often vacationed with the Lange family at Klinger Lake in Michigan when the girls were young.  She also planned many weekend adventures in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan.

She joined the staff of Lyons Township High School in 1980 and worked in various departments until she retired in 2000.  Monthly breakfasts and holiday luncheons with her LT girlfriends were a cherished part of her retirement years.

Travelling with their neighborhood friends or family created some of her favorite memories, especially yearly trips to South Haven, MI with her daughters and their families.  Her grandsons Brian, Payton and Boden were her pride and joy, and she loved watching them grow up.  They were truly blessed to have such loving and supportive grandparents who planned endless fun outings and activities.

Joan will be greatly missed by those that loved her, but her family will be forever blessed with her example of strength, determination, generosity, and family tradition.

Visitation Saturday, February 11th from 10am until time of service, 11am at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oak Brook Road, Oak Brook.

  1. So sorry to hear of Joan’s passing. She was a big part of our LT secretaries group. We worked together on many of the Christmas outings for the LT secretaries. Such a sweet and gracious woman. She will be missed.
    May her memory be eternal

  2. We have wonderful memories of Joan and Don when Lisa, Sue, Vonna and Dino were school friends at Forest Road School and Lyons Township HS. Also fond memory of visiting Lisa at Purdue, and of course, the football game when our kinds were in college. When she entertained in her home, she was a first class hostess. Sweet and gracious lady. Our deepest sympathy to Lisa, Sue and their respective families. One life lived, many lives touched.

  3. To Joan M. Lange’s family:

I trust you enjoyed the musical portion of the “Celebration of Life” memorial service. I was unable to stay and had to leave. I was very humbled to be apart of the service. I hope everyone was inspired by the musical selections, hymns and special numbers. Sincerely prayerful for whole family. Pastor Jeorge Holmes (vocalist with Marianne Kim (pianist), 630-542-5090)
