Gerald L. “Jerry” Horn

Gerald L. “Jerry” Horn, 97, of LaGrange Park passed away on November 17, 2022.
Jerry is survived by his children James (Judith) Horn, Marilyn (late Stephen) Hamadej and
Janet (Terence) Perkins; grandchildren Douglas, Kenneth (Katherine) and Jeffrey Perkins, and Shannon (fiancé Alan Franciose) Horn; brother William (Mary Pat) Horn and sister-in-law Barbara Donnelly Storey; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty Donnelly Horn; his parents B. Hazel Rooney Horn, Gerald J. Horn and Margaret Ryan Horn; his parents-in-law William H. Donnelly and Dorothy Lynch Donnelly; three of his siblings (and their spouses) Bernice (Robert) Fleming, Carol (Joseph) Mullarkey, and Bernard (Helen) Horn; brothers-and-sisters-in-law Mary Therese and William J. Donnelly, MD and Harold E. Storey; three nieces, Maureen and Kathleen Mullarkey and Susan Fleming; and one nephew, Gerald Horn.

Jerry graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary and Loyola University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Jerry’s professional life was devoted to sales management of national-brand consumer appliances in Chicagoland. His success was due to his combination of a tireless work ethic plus highly-advanced interpersonal skills (including his extraordinary recall of names, faces and details).

After he retired, he had a second career working with his two brothers and three of his nephews in the independent insurance agency founded in 1959 by Jerry’s father. During those years he also enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife, Betty.

Jerry was a lifelong, passionate fan (and season ticket holder) of the Chicago Bears; he also closely followed Chicagoland’s other professional and college sports teams.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Plymouth Place who provided loving care and assistance to Jerry during the past five years, and to all those at St. Thomas Hospice who provided additional services during the final six weeks of Jerry’s life.
