Peggy Ann Dotterweich
Peggy Ann Dotterweich of Chicago, formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana died March 9. A family service will be held at a later date at Notre Dame Parish in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Philip Neri parish cemetery in Empire, Michigan.
Peggy Hendrick was born in 1937 in Jackson, Michigan. She graduated from Jackson High School and attended Jackson Community College. After serving as a stewardess for Capitol Air Lines, she was employed at Consumers Power Company in Jackson until her marriage, and at San Diego Gas and Electric after her marriage.
In 1959, Peggy married William E. “Bill” Dotterweich of Jackson, who survives. They were blessed with four children: Patrick, Andrew and Susan, who survive, and Kevin, who died in 1994. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
While raising her family, Peggy served with numerous organizations and on several civic and school boards, taught religion classes at two parishes, and chaired a number of fund raising events. She served nine years as a member of the advisory council of the Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame. With her husband, she endowed a minority scholarship fund at Notre Dame which has enabled over one hundred seventy five minority students to attend the University. She also endowed a scholarship fund at Jackson Community College.
In 1996, Peggy founded the Fort Wayne Christ Child Society, which provides clothing and services to needy children in the Fort Wayne area. She also served as the Society’s first President.
“Please don’t grieve for me. I lived a full and happy life. Rather, grieve for those unborn who will never have that opportunity.”

Peggy was very loving and generous. She watched my three daughters while I went to visit my Dad who suffered a stroke. Susan and my daughter Michelle were in the same class at St. Vincent’s.

Rest in peace Peggy, mom, grandma “D” and great Grandma “D” from all of us who loved you while you were with us. Thank you for all your tips and stories you shared through the years. Thank you for setting an example to give back to those who have not been as blessed as we all have. As my “Gram” always said “we didn’t have enough time with you” but you were always “ready” to go when ever you were called. Deepest condolences to all of my Dotterweich family. We will forever remember your sweet smile.
Peggy was a great friend and classmate at Jackson High School. She was a loving and kind Christian all her life long. Peggy was always a leader, ready to help anyone in need and was loved by everyone she met. She and Bill were the epitome of love to their family, church, students and all. She will surely be missed. Condolences to Bill and all of her family!
So sorry to learn of Peggy:s passing. Enjoyed many good times at Glen Lake activities. She will be sadly missed, but be so joyfully remembered.
