Evelyn P. Conforti

Evelyn P. Conforti, 96, of Westmont, passed away on January 14, 2022.

On March 17, 1925, Evelyn was born to Elizabeth and Tony Salvato of Chicago, Illinois.  As one of ten children, her mother was finally blessed with the luck of the Irish, being the first girl after five boys.  Evelyn learned quickly to embrace her tomboy side to keep up with her seven brothers.

After high school, she joined the convent hoping to become a nun who provided medical care. Ultimately, she decided against taking her final vows. Shortly afterwards, Evelyn met her husband, Joe, after he returned from World War II. They married after a brief courtship, and eventually settled in Woodridge, Illinois to rear their five children.

Evelyn returned to her medical passion in her mid-forties. She worked as a medical secretary at La Grange Community Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. Evelyn found great joy in the teamwork required to care for critically ill patients. Evelyn was well-loved and respected by the patients, their families, and co-workers alike.  She continued that work until she reached retirement.

While family always came first, her later life gave her a chance to indulge in her other passions: gardening, feeding the local wildlife, organizing Bunco with her friends, and the occasional pursuit of a jackpot.

In 2015, Evelyn moved to Westmont, Illinois from Hobart, Indiana to join her family in a blended household. This gave her children the privilege to return the care and love that she so generously provided to her family over the years. Many nights were spent laughing over shared meals, enjoying the Family Feud, reminiscing fond memories, and planning the next family occasion.

Evelyn was the loving mother of Joseph (Wendy) Conforti, the late Patricia A. (George Ramusack) Conforti, Diane (the late D.J.) Pierson, Sue (Brian Solner) Conforti, and the late Thomas Conforti. She was the very devoted grandmother of Gary, Robin (Jose), Theresa, Lauren (Nick), Michelle (Ryan), and Kayla. Dear “Big Gramma” of many great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered as an aunt by many. Evelyn was preceded in death by her cherished siblings Ed Salvato, Dominick (late Frances) Salvato, Joseph (late Barbara) Salvato, Carl (late Josie) Salvato, Samuel (late Tony) Salvato, Marion (late Ben), Anthony (late Sally) Salvato, Dorothy Salvato, and Robert Salvato.
