Virginia McClellan

Virginia McClellan, (Ginny), 92, of Western Springs, IL. passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022.  Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa., she graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School where she met Arthur McClellan. In 1952, after Art returned from serving in the Korean War, he and Ginny were married. They celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary before Art’s passing in 2016. Ginny was the devoted mother of Marsha, Michael (Elizabeth), Mark, David (Gina), and Douglas. She was the cherished grandmother of Erica (Christopher Wetzel), Julie, Amy, Kevin, Jack, Benjamin (Vivian), Madeline, Jaclyn (Edward Groberski), Eric and Greg. She was the proud great-grandmother of Logan and Lena Wetzel.

Ginny dedicated her life to being an outstanding mother. She insisted her children pursue their goals through education and supported enthusiastically the paths each selected. Family activities were particularly important to her. Rarely did a holiday pass without her hosting a celebration at the family home. Everyone was invited. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she was active in the Western Springs community where she and Arthur lived for more than fifty-five years. Ginny was a long-time parishioner of St. John of the Cross Parish where she volunteered extensively and her children attended school.

She was a skilled pianist who studied music for sixteen years. Those talents were on display when she sang for over twenty years as a member of the St. John of the Cross Parish Resurrection Choir.

Ginny’s activities outside the home were extensive and varied. For many years, she served as a Cook County Election Judge. Ginny belonged to a Western Springs book club that she started with others almost fifty years ago. She was a member of Questers and proficiently played bridge, golf and tennis with her dear friends. Ginny proctored professional licensing examinations for Continental Testing when her children no longer required her undivided attention. Ginny’s fun-loving spirit and unlimited energy will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Friends and family will gather on January 15, 2022 for visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a Life Celebration Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John of the Cross Church 5005 Wolf Rd. Western Springs, IL. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Virginia McClellan’s name to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago: donations@catholiccharities.net.; mail: Catholic Charities P.O. Box 7154 Carol Stream, IL. 60197-7154.
