James J. Gustis

James J. Gustis — beloved husband of Linda, loving father of two boys and devoted grandfather of three — died from complications of Parkinson’s Disease on September 8th at the age of 77. He passed away peacefully at his home in Naperville, Illinois, where he lived for the past 3 1/2 years.

Jim was born on August 2, 1944 to Joseph and Martha Gustis in Chicago, IL. In 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent 2 years in Germany. He married Linda in 1971 at Queen of Martyr’s Church in Evergreen Park, and soon after moved to Woodridge, IL, where they spent most of their lives and raised their boys. Jim obtained an Electrical Engineering degree from Illinois Institute of Technology.

Uncle Jim, as he was affectionately referred to by family and friends, was always ready for a good time. An avid lover of golf, muscle and foriegn sports cars; he enjoyed spending summers on the lake in Fennville, MI and was a founding member of the annual Fennville Closed golf tournament. He was active in Indian Guides with his 2 boys and was always in the stands watching them play sports. He was “one of the good guys” and we were blessed to have him in our lives. We will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sons Joseph (Laura) and Jeffrey (Mercy); grandchildren Matthew, Abigail and Amaya; his sister Patricia (late Raymond) Hoagland; brothers Gerald (Anita) and John (Michelle) Gustis and his many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Scholastica Church, 7800 Janes Ave, Woodridge.  Visitation will occur from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hallowell & James Funeral Home 301 75th St, Downers Grove.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association are appreciated.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Jim.
He and I were in grade and high school together and I remember Jim as a car guy and as one who was always positive.
