Michael Hansberry

Michael Hansberry, husband, father, grandfather, businessman and volunteer passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2021. He will be greatly missed.

Mike was born in 1932 in Richland Center, WI.  Following his graduation from the University of Wisconsin, Mike proudly served in the US Army, attending basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood.  Upon completing his training in 1957, Mike was selected to join the army’s counterintelligence unit, taking him to Baltimore and to Chicago.  After serving his country, Mike joined 3M Company.  He spent his successful career in increasingly responsible positions at 3M, spending several years in Chicago before his 1973 move to 3M headquarters in St. Paul, MN.  Upon retirement in 1992, Mike returned to the Chicago area where he happily volunteered for many years.  Back in his adopted hometown, Mike volunteered first as a caseworker at SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives), then as a project manager at ESC (Executive Service Corps).

Mike met the love of his life, Regina, in Chicago in 1957; they married on October 25, 1958.  Together they had nine children, all of whom grieve yet celebrate the life they had with their dad; Michael (Beverly), Elise, Donna (Craig), Marianne (Charles), Carol (Aaron), John (Jennifer), Thomas (Jeronna), Mark (Kristen) and Maria (John).  Grandchildren Sean, Eliese (Sam), Michael Joe, Estella, Lillian, Max, Emma (Bentley), Nora, Sally, Michael (Katie), Catharine, Julia, Jack, Sarah, Matthew, Charlie, Christopher, and Marian, and great grandson John join in celebrating Mike’s life, as do his sister Evelyn, and his many close nieces and nephews.

Mike lived his life with purpose, optimism and a sense of adventure, an unyielding interest in people and good conversation, and an unfailing sense of humor. We were fortunate to have him and to love him.

  5. I remember Mr. Hansberry sitting at the end of the table at big family dinners, with his wife Mrs. Hansberry–making dinner go further with pizza and scrambled eggs. Sitting in their big warm kitchen, with the fireplace going in the next room, was a fond memory. I’m sorry for Carol Hansberry McGuire for losing her father. She loved him more than the world.

Sorry for all the Hansberry kids.

    Sincerely,

    Mary Anne
