Anna B. Funchess

Anna B. Funchess, of Maywood, Illinois; born December 11, 1934, went to meet the Lord on January 7, 2021; beloved wife of the late John L. Funchess; loving mother of Valerie Murray, Anthony Murray, & Glenn (Melanie) Funchess; proud grandmother of Jessica, Anna, Ian, Evan, Jacqueline, & Madeline; great-grandmother of Trenton & Jordan; dear sister of Jean Burton, Aubrey (Ruth) Burton, Lee Andrew (Angela) Burton, Larry (Donna) Burton, the late Willie Burton, Jr. (Johnnie Lou) & the late Aaron Burton.
She will be greatly missed by her long-time friend, Mrs. Mary Jones of Chicago, IL and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Anna was born in Senatobia, Tate County, Mississippi to Ollie & Willie Burton, Sr. She attended high school in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Chicago. She was a member of the Church of Christ as her faith, however, she did not attend many services while living in Chicago. She believed in God, and was a prayerful woman. She spent more than 30 years as a Nurse at Edward Hines VA Medical Center. She has many friends and co-workers from her time there who have since retired. She will be missed greatly.

Visitation 2 to 6pm on Friday, January 15 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. 10 guests per area of the funeral home admitted at a time; social distancing guidelines in place, & masks required. A private service will be held with her most immediate family. Interment private.

  1. My deepest condolences to the family. A wonderful woman whom I had the chance to meet while I grew up with her son Glenn 43 years of friendship. Very kind spirit she will truly be greatly missed.
