  1. To my cousins Jean, Dan and Alan, I was sad to hear of Uncle Verns passing, but I feel certain he was ready for his earthly suffering to end and be with Aunt Marilyn! After my conversation with my parents about the loss of Uncle Vern, I sat down and remembered his life as I saw it through the eyes of a child growing up as we visited your home in the summertime. Uncle Vern was always kind, considerate and welcoming to Deb & I. I was always very impressed that he left for work every morning in a Suit, while I rarely saw our Dad in anything but jeans, ha. Looking back on our young years together, it is amazing to me that our parents were able to keep our cousin relationships close when we lived so far apart! Family was very important, and making the trips back to Dubuque for Holiday Celebrations are some of my fondest memories of my childhood, and Uncle Vern. I recalled knowing at a very young age that Vern & Marilyn’s close relationship was very special. I also knew that Uncle Vern loved his Mother, Grandma Myrt so very much….. we all did! Yes, Uncle Vern was a family man who was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and I am certain he will be watching the great grandchildren with Aunt Marilyn by his side in Heaven. My love to you, and thanks for the fond memories Uncle Vern

  2. We are so sad to read about your dad’s passing. I was addressing Christmas cards and decided to “Google” his name! We rather suspected that he had passed, especially since Jean was kind enough to send us a note that they were in the process of moving him into an Assisted Living facility. While he and Jim were business buddies, he and and your mom became such good friends through the years. We had such good times together and we fondly remember the boat rides we took when they came to visit us in Cincinnati. We still chuckle when we think back to the time they brought along a student whom they were hosting. We nicknamed him “So So” as that was his stock answer to any questions we asked! Your dad was so proud of you all and kept us updated as to how you all were doing.
