Maxine CostelloMaxine Lucille Costello. Born: February 28, 1923. Died: February 19, 2014. At age 90 Maxine Lucille Costello passed away February 19 at Plymouth Place Senior Living in La Grange Park, IL just a few days short of her 91st birthday. Maxine was the daughter of the late Mamie and James Stine. She was raised in Morris, IL, and graduated from Morris High School in 1941. Following high school, Maxine studied at and graduated from the Gallagher School of Business with high honors. Following her studies she worked as a secretary in the Grundy County, IL courthouse before marrying the late Thomas Francis Costello in 1944. Maxine and Tom moved numerous times around the United States with their two children, Beth and Brent, for Tom’s career in sales, until settling in Western Springs, IL in 1960. Both Maxine and Tom loved going to auctions and country sales, and especially enjoyed collecting glass canes, Century of Progress memorabilia, dolls, costume jewelry and tools. Every free weekend found them off in another direction, riding their Honda motorcycle, searching for the collectibles they loved. Maxine was a very skilled artist and specialized in making beautiful jeweled Christmas trees and wall hangings. She also was an expert at refinishing furniture and enjoyed passing on her work to her children. Most of all, Maxine, Tom, Beth and Brent loved family gatherings spent at the Morris home of her parents, surrounded by relatives. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie and Jim Stine, her sister Gladys Larsen, her niece Lynda Myre, and her nephew James Larsen. Her nephew John lives in Atlanta, GA. Other survivors include her children: Beth Hobby (Sandra Leone) of Morris; Brent Costello (Jennifer) of Valley Village, CA.; grandson Alex (Amy) Costello of Pacific Palisades, CA.; granddaughter Tamsin (Erik) Bailey of Los Angeles, CA. and great-grandson Jameson, son of Alex and Amy. Arrangements are being made by the Hallowell & James Funeral Home in Countryside, IL. There will be a memorial celebration for Maxine at Albert Hall in Plymouth Place on Saturday, March 29 from 3 – 5 p.m. All friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made to the Sunday School Snack Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, IL.
