Nancy E. Filip

Nancy E. Filip, age 88, of Waukesha, WI, formerly of La Grange Park, IL, passed away on October 4, 2025. Born on August 28, 1937, she was the beloved daughter of Edward and Mary (née Dubsky) Filip and sister to Marie and Margaret (Marge) Filip. A lifelong learner and devoted public servant, she spent her career in education and helping others navigate health care benefits.

Nancy attended Nazareth Academy and began her early career as an aide at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, where she especially cherished her time caring for newborns in the obstetrics department. After graduation from Nazareth Academy, Nancy earned a Bachelor of Science in English, with a minor in Psychology, from Marquette University.

Nancy returned to her alma mater, Nazareth Academy, to teach high school English. She taught for five years, focusing on developing students’ analytical reading, writing, and communication skills within a rigorous academic environment.

Following her teaching career, Nancy devoted much of her professional life to supporting others through the Medicare system. She served as a case worker for both the Cook County and Illinois Departments of Public Aid, later advancing to the role of Supervising Case Worker at Oak Forest Hospital. There, she worked as a resource consultant, assisting patients with long-term Medicare benefits. She concluded her career at Blue Cross Blue Shield as a CAMPUS Manager, where she supported civilian dependents of military personnel across the United States.

Nancy was a longtime resident of La Grange Park, Illinois, and a parishioner of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she enjoyed the company of many neighbors and friends. She was proud to be a PANK-Professional Aunt, No Kids-and was a deep presence in her nieces’ and nephews’ lives. Outside of her professional achievements, Nancy led a rich and fulfilling personal life. She held a deep love for nature and maintained beautiful gardens at her home. Summers spent in Michigan were a lifelong tradition and a source of great joy-filled with cherished memories, family gatherings, and the peace of lakeside living. These summers were among her most treasured experiences.

An admirer of English literature and the arts, Nancy was an accomplished wordsmith who took great pleasure in conversation, debate and games such as Scrabble and Balderdash. A passionate reader, she enjoyed exploring new books on her Kindle and participating in book clubs when possible.

Nancy passed away in Waukesha, WI, on Saturday, October 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Filip; her sisters, Marie Filip and Margaret Konigsfeld; her brother-in-law, Richard Konigsfeld; and her lifelong friend, Pat Casey.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews: Kathy (Craig) Merrill, Mike (Jacky) Konigsfeld, Jim Konigsfeld, and Mary (Mark) Wejrowski; her grandnieces and grandnephews: Jamie (Phil) Weber, Peter Konigsfeld, Brian (Kendall) Merrill, Matthew Wejrowski, and Brandon Wejrowski; and her great-great-niece and great-great-nephew: Luke Weber and Enora Merrill. She will also be fondly remembered by many relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:30 AM Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Grange, IL

Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.
