Daniel Smilanich, Jr., age 85, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Sharon; loving father of Alice (Vladimir) Ilievski; cherished grandfather of Kiril and Sephora Ilievski; devoted brother of Elizabeth (Peter) DeRum and Patricia (Robert) Roach ; fond uncle of Elizabeth (David) Petty, Paige Malicki, Renee Kurczynski, Lee DeRum, Elizabeth (Brett) Papendick, Robert (Heather) Roach, Michael Roach, Kathleen (Brian) McLaughlin, Thomas Hayes, Nancy Hayes, Kathy (Alex) Brandtner, Timothy (Becky) Hayes, Molly (Don) Webb, Ann (Tony) Panosch, and Megan Hayes; long-time neighbor of Gerda Kirschner and Robert Kirschner; friend to many.Daniel enjoyed telling stories, was a car enthusiast, and loved spending time with family and friends. He was an eternal optimist that had a smile to brighten anyone’s day.
Visitation 8:30am until time of chapel prayers, 9:30am, on Thursday, October 9th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Procession will follow to St. Cletus Parish, LaGrange for a 10am Funeral Mass. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
