Carolyn Ann Herzog

Carolyn Ann Herzog (nee Beimfohr) daughter of William Ephraim Beimfohr and Helen Thompson Beimfohr (nee Hilling) and sister of Roberta Noor (nee Beimfohr) went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on September 26, 2025.

Carolyn was preceded by her late husband Alfred Charles Herzog, who passed on November 28, 2023.  Carolyn and Alfred left two sons Douglas Herzog (wife Lynn) and Eric Herzog (wife Kathy).

She left four grandchildren, Trenton, Andrew (wife Casey), Scott (wife Jordin), and Joy; three great grandchildren, Colin, Adalynn, and Ryan; and niece Kim (husband Todd) Noor Berg.

Carolyn was born in Henry, Illinois and grew up in a farmhouse near the Illinois River.  She attended a one room schoolhouse and later attended Magnolia-Swaney High School.  Still later Carolyn attended nursing school at Burnham Hospital in Champaign, Illinois and earned her RN.  She met her future husband, who attended the University of Illinois, just a half mile away.

Carolyn and her husband, who was newly commissioned into the Navy and their two children, spent seven years as a military family.  She served as the president of the Officer’s Wives Club on Guam during Alfred’s service.  After Alfred moved to reserve duty they settled in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago.  Carolyn served her community through extensive volunteer work – often in leadership positions.

Carolyn began working as a nurse in the Emergency Room at Christ Community Hospital in Oak Lawn and later as an industrial nurse at Argonne National Labs where she retired.

She loved flowers, birds, and read books extensively.

All who knew Carolyn miss her greatly.

Services and interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be private.  Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home 630-964-6500
