Margaret Cushion

Margaret (Marge) Cushion, passed peacefully from this life to eternal life on September 20, 2025 at Endeavor Health Edward Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She is now free of pain and eager to start playing cards and Kismet with her late relatives.
Marge was born on December 13, 1949 in Chicago, IL. She worked as a waitress for many years, serving a smile to many happy customers. She was the most loving wife of 49 years to Peter (Pete) Cushion. As Pete recalls, she made the best decision of his life when she said “yes” to marriage upon proposing to her in a Shreveport, LA airport.
Marge is survived by her husband Pete, daughters Kim (Troy) Hollenbeck, Nicolle (Eric) Strikowski, and Kelly (Angela Pinta) Cushion; grandchildren Tommy (Marissa) Aviles, Theresa (Tessa) Hollenbeck, Fiona and Simon Strikowski; great grandchild Ophelia Aviles; Uncle Frank and Aunt Sharon Coglianese; Cousins Donna and Keith Sellars; Nieces Debra (Debbie) Vitullo, Danielle Alvarez, Laura Cushion, and Sherry Fairfield; Best friends Ramona Lake whom she affectionately referred to as her second mother, Leah Sheridan and Sandra Dybeck.
Marge is preceded in death by her father the late Raymond (Ray) Puetz, mother the late Theresa Puetz, and her favorite sister the late Carol Jean (Michael) Vitullo.
Marge loved to live a simple life and treasured her time with family and friends. Marge enjoyed reading, a good dice or card game and even more, the bonding and camaraderie that came with those games. Marge enjoyed taking annual family trips to Traverse City, MI where they enjoyed cherry picking, touring, fishing, boating and family time and making friends at Little Platte Lake.
Marge was especially proud of being a grandmother and filled with joy to hold her great grandchild Ophelia who was recently born. Marge was proudly awaiting the college graduation of her grandchild Tessa who will go on to be a teacher. Marge also loved the New Orleans wedding of her daughter Kelly to Angela and is filled with fond memories of what she referred to as “one of the most unique experiences of her life”.
Marge is well-known for her Christmas gifts of gifting money in a unique way every year. The goal was to make it a well, drawn out experience of unwrapping bills from straws, multiple layers of boxes, or multiple balls of wrapping paper.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday September 25, 2025 from 3-8p.m at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301 75th St., Downers Grove, IL followed by a funeral service on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 10:30a.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory.
We take comfort in knowing that Marge is now resting in peace, reunited with those who passed before her. Her legacy of love, warmth, and devotion will continue to inspire us every day. Funeral info 630-964-6500

I will always remember Marge, she was responsible for getting me the job at Home Run Inn. I will think about her all the time, I go to work. R.I.P. Marge!
To my Cushion family, I’m so sorry for your loss! I know how much you are grieving and my heart and thoughts are with you. Mrs. Cushion was one of the most loving moms(grandma, wife) I know. She always has a smile and the warmest welcomes with hugs and kisses and so many laughs. It was so evident how much she loved all of you. She will be missed very much! Love you guys!
I loved my Auntie Marge’s unique Christmas gifts my favorites were money 💴 hidden in envelopes ✉️ and in a mailbox, in a box 📦 full of socks 🧦. I’ll miss our weekly phone 📞 calls and breakfasts 🍳 outings, dinners with a beer 🍺 as she was such a great listener. I know she’s resting peacefully without any pain and playing the slots or cards with my mom (her sister) and parents. Love ❤️ and miss you 😘 love Debbie
