John Edgar Cooper

John CooperJohn Edgar Cooper was born on September 20th, 1926, in Patton, Pennsylvania, to Dr. Edgar and Mary Cooper (Leiden). He had four sisters, Lucy Jane (Sheehan), Ann Louise (Ruhf), Marian Elizabeth (Schoenkopf) and Nancy Marie (Austin). John married Irene Knauf, and was married for 60 years. They were blessed with three daughters, Carol (Cooper), Patricia (Boland) and Janet (Kelly) and six granddaughters, Lauren and Jenna Kaplan (Carol), Megan and Susan Boland (Patricia), and Brittany and Nicole Boyer (Janet). John joyfully had 3 son in-laws, Michael Kaplan, Timothy Boland and Joseph Kelly. He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II. John earned an accounting degree from The University of Illinois, where he also played football and baseball. John worked at Arthur Anderson. He enhanced his education with a law degree from DePaul University College of Law.  At Beatrice Foods, John worked his way up to executive in charge of international tax accounting. John Cooper left joy, wisdom and grace with all who met him. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 7, 2016. Visitation Sunday, Sept., 11, from 4 until 8pm at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Prayers Monday, Sept. 12, 9:15am from the chapel to St. John of the Cross Church in Western Springs for a 9:45am Mass. Entombment Christ the King Garden Mausoleum at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
