Rev. Charles Svoboda

Rev. Charles Svoboda, 94, of Oak Trace, Downers Grove, formerly of Hinsdale entered heaven’s shores on June 17, 2014 at 9:00am.  He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor, the loving father of Carol (the late Russell) Taylor, Daniel (Carolyn) and Timothy (Karol) Svoboda and John (Maureen) Boda.  Chuck was a devoted grandfather of Jenn (Mike) Sweany, Bill and Ben (Trisha) Taylor, Ana (Biju) Mathew, Sonya and Paul Svoboda.  He was a dear greatgrandfather of Kendyl and Ashlyn Sweany, Lakelan Taylor and Zarah Mathew.  Chuck was preceded in death by all of his siblings, the late Joseph, Frank, Edward, Tilly and Milly.  He is survived by many nieces and nephews.  Rev. Svoboda served with the Armed Forces in World War II with three years in overseas duty in Europe in North Africa under General George Patton, and in Italy under General Mark Clark.  He eventually ended up in France and Germany.  He received the Good Conduct Ribbon with one Silver Battle Star, one Bronze Battle Star, Bronze Service Arrowhead, six overseas Service Bars and One Service Stripe.  He was also an Anzio Beach Survivor.  He was a Bible Teacher, Preacher, Evangelist, Author, Prayer Warrior, Assistant to the President of Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music, Church Planter and Organizer, Church Troubleshooter and Arbitrator, Founder of the Church Extension Ministry for IFCA International (Illinois Bible Church Mission) during which time 13 Bible Churches were started through area Bible classes, Founder and Director Emeritus of Bible Related Ministries, Pastor to the Pastors and Friend of many.  Chuck is the author of many Bible Studies and a book called “Who Would Believe It.”  Rev. Svoboda began his ministry of troubleshooting churches in 1953 to rescue a church in distress.  His ministry of rescue and church planting spanned a 60 year period, during which he helped organize 16 churches and rescue literally hundreds of strife-torn churches.  Chuck was an ordinary man with a remarkable sense of humor and a belief in a big God with no limitations.  He prayed faithfully each day and claimed the promise of one of his favorite verses: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – Jeremiah 33:3.  During his years of service Chuck had the insight to train faithful men for ministry: Young pastors capable of ministry, Associate Arbitrators, a capable Board, as well as the next Director of BRM, with the plan of the ministry continuing when his days on earth were through.  This was a good plan and BRM continues to the present day keeping church doors open and good men in pulpits.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8pm on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 West 55th Street, Countryside, Illinois 60525.  Closing Service and Testimonies will be at 3pm on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at LaGrange Bible Church, 850 South Seventh Avenue.  In lieu of flowers and memorials, please send donations to the continuing work of Bible Related Ministries, P. O. Box 272, Hinsdale, IL 60522-0272.  Funeral home phone 708/352-6500 or www.hjfunerals.com
