Chester T. Zurowski

Chester T. Zurowski, 94, of Chicago.  WWII Marine Corps Veteran.  Beloved husband of the late Josephine.  Loving father of Dr. Susan Zurowski (Dr. Michael Szewczyk), Nancy Zurowski (Sal Palazzolo) and Sharon Zurowski (Patrick Henningfield).  Devoted grandfather of Matt, Marlena, Warren, Steve, Samantha, Jack and Alex.  Dear brother of the late Edward (late Irene) Zurowski and the late Angeline (late Stanley) Dymek.  Fond uncle of many.  Visitation 4 to 8pm Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.  Prayers 9:15am Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 at the funeral home to St. Francis Xavier Church, LaGrange for Mass at 10am.  Interment Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project appreciated.  Chester served in the 1st Marine Division in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns during World War II.  His tour of duty took him to the Solomon and Russell Islands and he participated during the invasion and capture of Okinawa, Shima and the Ryukyu Island.  He also served in China in the Tretsin, Tanshsn and Chinwagtao area.  Besides membership in the Marine Corps League, Mr. Zurowski is also a member of the VFW Des Plaines Valley Memorial Post #6863 in Summit, Illinois.  Funeral home phone: (708) 352-6500.

  1. The members of The American Legion Post 1941 in La Grange wish to offer our condolences to Chester’s family. We are losing our WWII veterans at a decreasing rate because there are fewer and fewer of them left with every passing day. So sad. The “Greatest Generation” for certain. Thanks for your service Chester, you will be missed by your veteran brothers and sisters.
