Anthony A. Camardo

Anthony A. Camardo, 92, of Downers Grove, formerly of River Grove, at rest February 21.  Born in Chicago on April 26, 1924 to Pasquale and Angelina Camardo.  Devoted husband for 59 years to the late Virginia L. Camardo (nee Saucier); Loving father of Angela (Dennis) Wollenberg, Pasquale Camardo, and Gina (Timothy) Joyce. Cherished Papa of Nicholas (Candice), Carly, Nathan, Ginger (Ben) Carter, Jessica (Joe) Kalas, and Alyssa (Greg) Donlan.  Beloved great-papa of Payton, Kinley, Hudson, John and the late Skylar.  Dear big brother to 5, surviving are Michael (JoAnn) and Katherine, predeceased by Matthew (Dolores), Patsy (Tina), and Carmella.  Also predeceased by in-laws A.G. and Jessie Saucier, A.G. (Gloria) Saucier, Jean (J.B.) Coldiron, and pets Rocky, Alydar and Rebel.  Loving “Uncle Tony”, cousin, friend, and dear neighbor to many, including his dog Larson.  Anthony was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving during WWII in the Philippines & New Guinea. He began his career at Wesley-Jessen as they developed the first contact lenses and later worked with his son until retirement.  He was devoted to his family and friends, passionate about horse racing & betting at his favorite tracks and Oak Brook OTB.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  Visitation Friday, Feb. 24 from 3-8pm at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301 75th St, Downers Grove.  Prayers 11am Saturday Feb. 25 from the funeral home to St. Joseph Church, 4801 Main St, Downers Grove for mass at noon.   1. Good memories of visits both in Louisiana and Illinois over the past 52 years with Tony and Jennie. Special in-laws who gave this only child a wonderful family of nieces and nephews going into the third generation. Tony was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a great brother-in-law to me. He will indeed be missed. I am sorry I can’t be there to give my final farewell in person, but send my love and prayers. Gloria
