Dr. Joseph M. Dubec age 69, of Hinsdale. Beloved husband of Marcia Smits; loving step-father of Tracy (David) Nelson and Jennifer Smits; cherished grandfather of Josh (Fran) Nelson and Justin Nelson; proud great-grandfather of Inan and Amey, and brother-in-law of Patti Vigliotta; dear cousin of David (Linda) Siczko. Visitation will be Sunday, April 26, from 3PM to 9PM at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th Street, Countryside where a chapel service will be held on Monday, April 27th, at 11AM. Dr. Dubec served as superintendent of Palos School District #118 for eight years. Prior to joining Palos #118, Dr. Dubec was Superintendent of Benjamin School District #25 in DuPage County. He began his career as a middle school science teacher and then served as Principal at the primary, intermediate, and middle school levels. In addition he held the positions of Director of Special Education and Assistant Superintendent.

Dr. Dubec received his doctorate from Loyola University in curriculum and instruction and his law degree from John Marshall Law School. He earned both a master’s degree and educational specialist degree from Northern Illinois University. In addition he was an adjunct professor at Governors State University and Aurora University.

Grandpa, or as we all knew him, Haha was loved by his entire family and will be missed terribly. His love of education was surpassed only by the love and pride he had for his two grandsons and his entire family. Service Info: (708) 352-6500.
