Pierce MaherPierce James Maher, 98, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, formerly of Oak Brook, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, April 27, 2014.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Heller Maher, his brothers Russell (Myrtle) Maher, Frank (late Adele) Maher, William (late Harriet) Maher, his sisters Gertrude (late Adam) Stang, and Vivian (late William) Robertson and his grandson Michael William Maher.

He is survived by two sons, Pierre Maher of West Palm Beach, FL, and Ronald (Kathy) Maher of Oak Brook, five grandchildren, Ronald (Stacey) Maher, Kimberly (Kevin) Prosser, Jennifer, Patrick and Julia Maher, eleven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Pierce was born in Islington, Ontario, Canada, on May 21, 1915, but spent his entire life in the Chicago area, with frequent trips to Florida, of course.  He was a true entrepreneur having founded a number of businesses in the Chicago area and later in Florida.  Maher Lumber and Millwork is now a third generation family business, which was founded by Pierce in 1945.  He loved being in business with his son, Ron, and was very proud and happy to see the business continue with Patrick and Julia.

Pierce loved his family and particularly enjoyed the family reunions where brothers, sisters and many, many nieces and nephews gathered to tell and hear stories of the “wild Irish Maher brothers.”
