Jacob Joseph Kowalik, 10, of Downers Grove. Beloved son of Jennifer and Michael. Brother of Zachary and Isabella. Grandson of Kathy (late Kim) Wold and Roberta (Alan) Kowalik. Great-grandson of James Ove and Lorraine Pietrus and superhero to his many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Visitation 12 noon to 9pm Monday April 21 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 301-75th Street, Downers Grove. Will lie in state on Tuesday April 22 from 10am until time of service, 11am, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 5211 Carpenter St. in Downers Grove. Interment private. I am so happy that I knew the Super Hero named Jacob. He was the light of his families eyes and a blessing to all that have had the pleasure of meeting him. He will be missed in this world, but welcomed in heaven. He will be laughing with others, running, playing, swimming, and all those things he missed doing in this world. No pain or needles….Just peace…I hope you can find peace knowing you have been the best parents.

As a member of Immanuel, Jacob has been in my prayers during his diagnosis, treatment, transplant and recovery. Such a young warrior to have so many struggles. May the family be comforted knowing that he is with Jesus, in the palm of His healing hands – no more pain, sorrow, tears . .
